Nevada Workforce Connections partnered with Opus Group to address burnout and turnover, adopting trauma-informed practices that empowered staff and improved workforce outcomes across Nevada.
We learned a lot and saw training participation improve week by week. Staff began using new tools that made a daily difference.
Nevada Workforce Connections, tasked with supporting diverse job seekers, faced significant challenges. Frontline staff dealt with burnout and high turnover, often overwhelmed by administrative tasks.
This left little time to address clients’ deeper needs, such as navigating generational poverty, housing instability, and food insecurity. The result was a strained workforce and diminished client outcomes.
Traditional service planning wasn't enough to bridge the gap. Staff felt disconnected, reducing their ability to engage effectively with job seekers facing multifaceted systemic barriers. The challenge lay in equipping staff with tools to balance technical and emotional demands while maintaining their well-being.
Opus Group partnered with NWC to design a tailored, trauma-informed care capacity building program. Focused on empathy and resilience, the program included tools to help staff recognize client challenges and avoid retraumatization. Co-created solutions empowered staff to address complex cases while maintaining emotional health.
Opus Group emphasized trust-building and real-world relevance, ensuring the program addressed key challenges effectively. Staff were equipped with actionable strategies and a new perspective, balancing technical and human-centered approaches for better service delivery and workplace well-being.

NWC saw immediate improvements. Staff gained confidence, reduced burnout, and adopted a people-centered service model.
Operational readiness improved as employees connected more deeply with clients, boosting satisfaction. The trauma-informed framework transformed service delivery from task-driven to empathetic, enabling better outcomes for job seekers and stronger collaboration across teams.
The program fostered an environment of shared tools and learning, enhancing daily performance. NWC’s adoption of holistic practices set a benchmark in workforce development, creating a sustainable model that balanced program efficiency with compassionate care for clients and staff alike.
